Isolation in Ireland #10: First trip after COVID

Even I judged myself a bit there… but I felt safer bringing and eating my own food, so I did. My new mantra is that I’ll do whatever I need to in order to feel comfortable, as long as it doesn’t physically harm anyone else. And a little judgement doesn’t physically harm me.

*One of the things I’ve noticed since moving to Ireland is that people say “yourself” and “myself” when they should be saying “you” or “I”/”me” (at least according to the grammar rules I learned). I think the intent is to be a little less direct. I initially thought it was a British English thing, but I’ve heard some Americans say it as well, so… maybe grammar changed? 🤷‍♀️ It did soften the blow a bit in this instance though, which I appreciate. 😆

Isolation in Ireland #7: When are you getting married?

Out of the frying pan and into the fire… 🤦‍♀️ Can’t win!

This comic is not based on a real conversation (I’m lucky that my mom is relatively patient when it comes to such things), but is an amalgamation of real life complaints from female friends of the same age group. COVID turns up the parental pressure no matter how grown you are!

Stay strong, girlfriends 💪
